PROFESSIONAL PROFILE

Jean-Yves Nothias has spent his career along the continuum of innovation management from R&D to Financing in Life Sciences and Healthcare. As a major Venture Capital investor based in Paris for the last 15 years, he has invested globally and visited organizations in many ecosystems. He has been involved in the emergence of very innovative technologies, whether therapeutics, diagnostics, medical devices or information technologies that are ultimately being used by healthcare professionals.
Over the years Jean-Yves has contributed to the financing, building and trade sale or public offering of multiple companies based on innovation. He is the founder of Vesale Capital Partners and has held positions at board level, adding value by bringing a global vision of the Life Sciences industry and experience from past errors and obviously successes. He has worked with scientific and medical innovators or key opinion leaders as well as industrial, financial or regulatory players. He has an in-depth knowledge of technologies and an extensive network of executives in innovation at large. By being at the confluence of all players, he has been instrumental in synergizing different expertises to foster innovation and positively changing organisations.

PRIOR EXPERIENCE

Jean-Yves worked in financial analysis for specialized investment banks like Hambrecht & Quist or Oddo & Cie. As a Venture Capital investor, he has worked for major banks such as Société Générale or Crédit Agricole, industrial companies such as Aventis/Sanofi, and numerous SMEs such as Cytomics, Ipsogen, Trod Medical or Trophos in France and Anadys, Genome Quest, Somalogic, Targacept or PTC in the US. Jean-Yves is still a board member of Scynexis Inc. traded on the Nasdaq and Genomic Vision traded on Euronext. Jean-Yves has been a consultant to the French National Research Agency ANR (Agence Nationale pour la Recherche) as a jury member for several << Programme d'Investissement d'Avenir >> multibillion programs. He supervised the organization of various public/private projects between academic centers, public institutions, and private organizations.
Jean-Yves has a track record of successful financings or exits of investment through private acquisitions or public markets. He has achieved major success by enabling innovation to become reality while having to be very convincing and persistent in taking informed decision. He has enabled clients to successfully maneuver the current landscape of healthcare through successful strategic partnership and human capital consulting.

AREAS OF EXPERTISE

Jean-Yves holds a PhD in Molecular Biology (1993) from the University Pierre & Marie Curie and a Masters in Business Administration (1996) from the University of Paris Sorbonne. He is an member of IHEST "Institut des Hautes Etudes en Sciences et Technologies". He has written several scientific publications and the first official French Biotechnology Glossary. He was Vice President of the 2011 Jury that selected the New TTO Network for French Universities and Research Institutions. He was named in Nature Biotech 2005 << who's who >> as one of the most influential VC people in Europe.
